5 Homemade Natural Insecticide Solutions

5 nautral and effecive insecticides

Enough with all those mosquitoes! You can’t take it anymore, and quite frankly, neither can I! It’s late at night, and you can’t step outside to get a bug spray, because all the convenience stores are already closed. Well, don’t lose hope, because in this article we are going to teach you how to make your own insecticide.

Whether making a natural insecticide is just a last resort for you (as in my case), or whether you are just concerned about going bio, we have the right recipes for you; and odds are you probably already have all the required ingredients, cozily sitting in your fridge or kitchen cupboards!

Liquid soap, to Wash Away (or spray away) Those Mosquitoes

This is the simplest recipe for a natural insecticide. All you have to do is mix some Dr Bronner’s liquid soap with water, and put it in a spray bottle. Regardless of the quantities of each ingredient, make sure the soap content is more than the water content. You could add a few drops of orange or lemon essential oil, for fragrance.

Garlic and Pepper Spray

If you want something more potent and with more drastic effects, add five cloves of garlic (or more), 1 small onion and 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper to the mixture. You can let your mixture sit overnight in order for the ingredients to really develop their full effects. The pepper and the garlic are natural insect repellents and are well known to repel Japanese beetles, leafhoppers and slugs.

Neem Insecticide

This recipe is very efficient against house bugs as well as garden bugs that attack your plants. A neem insecticide is simply a mixture of neem oil (2 tablespoons), rosemary (1/2 tablespoon), lavender (1/2 tablespoon) and water (1 gallon). You could add some detergent (liquid soap) to the insecticide mixture to increase its potency and effectiveness.

Eucalyptus oil, for an Apocalyptic Effect!

Eucalyptus oil works wonders against flying insects. However, since you can’t make eucalyptus oil, you need to have some in store in case you want to use it. You only need to spray a few drops of your oil where the flies and mosquitoes find refuge, and rest assured that you will have a great night sleep!

Chrysanthemum Flower Tea

Chrysanthemum is a great concoction to drink for health and digestion purposes. In addition, it could also be used in the restless battle against mosquitoes and flying insects. The chrysanthemum flowers actually possess a miracle chemical called pyrethrum.

When it is inhaled by mosquitoes, it affects their nervous system, paralyzes them and render them immobile. And that is how you defeat those big hungry flying insects! How do you prepare your chrysanthemum concoction? Simply boil 100 grams of dried chrysanthemum flowers in 1 liter of water, for about 20 minutes. Next, let the mixture sit and cool. Then, place it in a spray bottle, and shout out for your victory! This product can be conserved for up to two months.

We hope that these easy-peasy recipes will help you fight your mosquitoes and flying insects, and recover a peaceful night rest!
