Massage oils can be costly, not to mention they are not always natural. A good therapeutic massage oil doesn’t have to cost the earth and in fact you can simply make it at home and you’ll ensure that you’re using the best all natural ingredients.
Let’s get started:
#1 – Use a natural vegetable oil. Mineral oils such as Vaseline and paraffin can’t be absorbed by the skin. Therefore, they are not a good option for therapeutic massages. Stick to a blend of natural vegetable oils as these will easily be absorbed and also supply your body with vitamins A, D, and E. They’ll also leave your skin feeling and looking fantastic.
#2 – Add a natural scent. To take your massage oil from mundane to extraordinary, add a fresh natural scent. You can simply add a few drops to your mixture of your favorite carrier oil – such as lavender or lemon balm. You can also make up your own mixture using fresh lavender or other natural scented plant petals like rose or jasmine.
Now lets put it all together. Here are a few natural massage oil recipes:
Recipe One: All Skin Types Massage Oil
– 1 cup vegetable oil
– 1 cup almond oil
– 3 drops lavender oil
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and gently heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir the mixture well and ensure that it is not too hot. You’ll want the massage oil to feel slightly warm, not hot. So be careful not to burn the skin.
Recipe Two: Dry Skin Massage oil
– 1 cup olive oil
– 1 cup organic shea butter
– 1 cup rose petal water (see below)
Rose petal mixture: Place a handful of rose petals in a large bowl, add a little warm water (just enough to cover it – a few tablespoons will do) and a few drops of olive oil. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and leave to steep overnight.
Follow same instructions as in recipe one above.
Recipe Three: Gorgeous all Over Massage Oil
– 1 cup organic thistle oil
– 1 cup vitamin E oil
– 1 cup cocoa butter
– 3 drops lemon balm oil
Follow same instructions as in recipes one and two.
