A sore throat can really make you feel miserable. Sore throats can be caused by several things. Allergies to things outside and inside can cause nasal drainage down the back of your throat. Over several days this drainage can begin to cause irritation and pain.
Colds viruses can also cause the throat tissue to become inflamed near the area where your nasal passages meet your throat. These are pretty mild conditions that, although annoying, will correct themselves over time. There are some steps you can take to relieving the pain of a sore throat, though. A trip to a local drug store will produce shelves of products that promise to fix your sore throat.
There are sprays and lozenges and syrups. But not everyone is crazy about pumping these medications into their bodies. If you have a small child that is suffering from a sore throat, you have to consider if these over the counter medications are safe for the child.
Some people would rather just by-pass all that hassle and use something safe and natural. The added bonus is that most natural home remedies can be whipped up right in your kitchen. No trips to the drug store required.
Hot Lemon Honey Tea is an ancient, tried and true remedy for the common sore throat. In ancient China hot honey was often used to soothe throat pain and in many cultures, for many centuries this has been a standard home remedy. So what is it about honey and lemon that make them such a good solution? Well, the thick, sticky nature of honey makes it a natural lubricate and coating. When you ingest honey, the smooth golden, liquid sticks to the lining of the throat.
This coating helps protect the sensitive throat tissue and gives you an instant sense of relief. Lemons are useful because lemon juice stimulates the mucus membranes. This can help to flush congestion on out so you can get better faster. Also, the acidic nature of lemons can actually change the environment of the throat helping to rid it of viruses and bacteria that could be causing the irritation.
So now that you know why honey and lemons are helpful, here is a quick and easy…
