3 Herbs for an Overactive Bladder

People who have overactive bladder or OAB often have painful contractions in their bladder which are caused by the nerves in the bladder. As a result, they feel a sudden and almost uncontrollable urge to urinate. It is also possible to have OAB without leakage. The risk factors of OAB include obesity, age, and pelvic surgery.

Panax ginseng

This herb for overactive bladder originates from the eastern part of Asia and it can be found in Korea, China, and Japan. The herb has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years now. It contains steroidal glycosides that are also known as ginsenosides.

Ginsenosides are supposed to lessen the effects of stress, increase energy, and enhance physical and intellectual performance. Other ingredients include panaxans that lowers blood sugar and polysaccharides that improve the immune system. Ginseng is used in many pharmaceutics to treat bladder conditions.

Ginseng promotes nitric oxide synthase which in the end contributes to the relaxation of the bladder muscles. A lot of research is being done regarding this herb and the specialists have found many different uses for it, so it won’t only help your bladder, but other aspects of your health as well.

Schisandrachiensis

Similar to ginseng, this herb has also been used for a long period of time in Chinese medicine. It is also known as Wu Wei Zi and it comes with compounds that are meant to balance out the different functions of the body. The herb has been used along with alpiniapxyphylla in order to put an end to excess urination.

Some other uses of the herb include alleviating exhaustion and promoting energy. There are numerous benefic compounds that this herb comes with including oils, minerals and vitamins. Just as in case of other herbs, a lot of studies have been conducted regarding this herb as well.

According to these studies, besides helping with urinary problems, the herb may also help people who have been affected by hepatitis. Some other studies suggest that the herb can reduce fatigue and it can improve physical and mental performance.

Valerianaofficinalis

This herb is also known as valerian and it has been used for thousands of years as a kind of calmative in case of many different disorders. In the past 300 years, a lot of studies have been conducted to find out more about the herb. It comes with a lot of compounds, including valerenic acid and valepotriates.

Even the ancient Greek doctors suggested the herb in case of urinary problems because it relaxes the skeletal system and smooth muscles. People can use it even if they have muscles spasms. The advantage of the herb is that it has natural calming effects and it can also be used as an anti-anxiety agent.

Although a lot of people have some degree of prejudice when it comes to herbs, the truth is that they could do a lot of good for you and your health. By using herbs you will be able to avoid having to take artificial drugs.
