5 Herbs To Soothe Arthritis

If you know someone with arthritis, be sympathetic to them, because the joint pains that arthritis causes can get very nasty and unbearable. Rheumatoid arthritis is the result of an immune system that is kind of hyperactive. Usual treatments are not easy or totally safe. Since it involves lowering the body’s immunity, treatments like chemotherapy affect the patient’s ability to fight pathogens negatively and even such drastic measures don’t promise perfect recovery. This is why it is wise to switch to herbal cures for it.

Herbs like echinacea or goldenseal boosts your immunity, which is exactly the opposite of what you want right now. It is a good idea to tackle the problem with anti-inflammation herbs, herbs that clean the blood and give strength to the body. Inflammation is responsible for an awful lot of problems that happen in the body, so these herbs should be good for patients.

The main cause of inflammation is when toxins and waste products from the body flows around your circulatory system. Alterative herbs specialize in clearing your blood of these waste materials. Your blood flow is clean and hence inflammation is almost zero.

Here are some herbs for inflammation. Also note that anyone can have these herbs, meaning it’s not specifically for arthritis or inflammation patients. If you want your blood to be cleaned or avoid joint pains, you are free to take them.

Burdock root

Fatty acids are very effective when it comes to fighting inflammation. Consuming burdock helps a lot with any kind of pain, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. There are three common ways of burdock consumption: capsule, stir-fries or a decoction. For your convenience, I have included the instructions on how to make a decoction.

Take 2 teaspoons of chopped fresh burdock roots.

Put the roots in boiling water and let it simmer for around ten minutes.

Turn off the heat and strain the liquid.

Flax

Also known as linum usitatissimum, the flaxseed is an excellent herb for inflammation and strengthening your immune system. It is used as the vegan source of Omega-3 and is one of the best remedies out there. To enjoy its benefits, try to take two teaspoons of flaxseed oil/flaxseed on a daily basis. Words of caution: if you suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), it is better to use the oil than the seeds. Also, there is no need to cook or heat the seed or the oil.

Turmeric

Turmeric has a reputation as an excellent anti-inflammatory herb, which makes it great for pain relief. It contains chemicals that work as good as prescribed medicines for anti-inflammation. Turmeric is often suggested for cancer, cataracts and Alzheimer’s patients.

Nettles

Nettles are one of those herbs that are gifted with almost every healing property you can think of. Along with its incredible anti-inflammatory property, nettles, which also goes by the name Urtica Dioca, contains a bunch of vitamins, minerals and proteins. For arthritis and gout of all kinds, sting nettle is an excellent thing. Along with the anti-inflammatory property, minerals like calcium, magnesium, boron and silicon will also help you to strengthen your bones. Using nettles will prevent you from taking any sort of NSAIDs, which are an unfortunate addition to the treatment of arthritis. A cup of nettle leaf tea every day can work wonders on your joint pains and water retention and is also good for adrenals and the kidneys.

Some brave arthritis patients have reported that if you strike the suffering joint with a cutting of nettle, it helps to relieve the pain. But if you feel uncomfortable doing it, then just take the oral dosages.

Liquorice

Liquorice is an herb that prefers to fight inflammation in the body’s own way. The body has corticosteroids, which helps to reduce inflammation and taking liquorice is like having a lot of these corticosteroids. It releases the enzymes that fight inflammation and encourages the release of cortisol, which is the body’s immune system suppressor and pain reliever.

It is to be noted that liquorice (also known as licorice) has some side effects that can affect people with high blood pressure as it can cause adrenaline fatigue and anxiety. So it is better to consult your physician before taking it.

If you are suffering from arthritis, a good diet that avoids animal fat, fried stuff and dairy products should be maintained. Do some yoga and light stretching to prevent the curse of joint pain.
