Toilets are one of the hardest areas of the house to clean. It could also be the dirtiest part with all the gooey and icky stuff you can find. Since the bathroom is most of the time humid, bacteria and other harmful microorganism could easily live and multiply here. If you don’t keep it clean, you could get all sorts of illnesses.
Even if the toilet needs thorough cleaning, you don’t need to use strong chemicals that can be harmful to the environment. Products with chemicals make it hard to breathe whenever you are cleaning the toilet. Who knows what the effects of these chemicals are to our health.
There are natural alternatives that you can use in cleaning a toilet. You may work a little though but it will be worth it because you are not only cleaning your toilet but also saving the planet.
Baking Soda
You can easily find baking soda in the pantry at home. It is is not just used in cooking and baking but it can also be utilized as a cleaning agent.
Flush the toilet, after which sprinkle a handful of baking soda and leave it overnight. Dip your toilet brush in the water then clean the toilet. Flush after scrubbing then repeat this process until there is no baking soda residue.
Baking soda can also be used in removing soap scums in the bathroom tiles and other areas in the house with tough stains.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
When cleaning stubborn toilet bowl stains you will need:
-
Toilet bowl brush
-
1 cup Baking soda
-
2 cups Vinegar
-
Sprinkle the baking soda around and inside the toilet bowl. Pour the vinegar at the rim of the bowl so it will soften and remove stains as it make its way down the bottom of the bowl. Let the baking soda and vinegar sit for at least 30 minutes.
-
Using your toilet bowl scrub, clean the bowl. You will notice that the stain will easily come out. Flush the toilet until it is thoroughly cleaned.
-
If after doing this you can still see stains and marks, repeat the process and double the amount of vinegar and baking soda. Leave it overnight to allow the solution to penetrate through those stubborn stains. Scrub again with brush and flush.
This method is environmental friendly and it does not have any harsh chemicals that can harm your family. To avoid having to deal with stubborn stains, you can clean your bathroom using this method twice or 3 times a week.
