The recommended dosage of Echinacea is two drops of Echinacea (juice or the alcohol extract) and water. You should take this mixture every two hours when symptoms show.
Andrographis (Andrographis paniculata) – Andrographis is also an effective treatment for symptoms of uncomplicated upper respiratory tract infection. It is also considered to be safe. However, that andrographis is effective is subject to debate. A study claims that the leaf extract is more effective than an echincea extract to reduce chronic common cold symptoms.

However, some cooked elderberries should not be consumed. Some elderberries like red elderberries are toxic. Make sure you check the instructions before you consume it. Recent claims show that berries from elderberry tree make an effective remedy. An extract from black elderberries enhances the immune system and fights influenza and other respiratory viruses. You can find black elder berries in stores. Black elderberry syrup is also available, or you can make it yourself.
Ginseng and Eleuthero (Panax ginseng) – These herbs fight with respiratory viruses. They are known to treat cold. Recent claims show that these herbs work effectively in elderly people. The standard dosage is 1-3 grams a day. However, consult with a doctor before deciding what dosage to take.
Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – This herb is useful in relieving cold and flu symptoms. It has helpful properties such as anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.
